15. LISTOPADU 2007: 'COMING SOON' BANNED FROM THE 'CZECH LION' COMPETITION!
Despite the fact that COMING SOON had already won a Special Award at the Festival Finále Plzeň (the largest competition for Czech films) and had been hailed by many as "The most original Czech film of the year," our film was banned from competing in the 'Czech Lion' competition - and without any explanation.
This is particularly surprising since the 'Czech Lion' himself has a beautiful part in the film and would have had a great chance of winning his own award. (One explanation we've heard is that Petr Vachler, a well-known zoophile and owner of the 'Czech Lion' competition, was being spiteful for not having been interviewed in COMING SOON.)
Considering, however, that few people can recall who won last year's award, we've decided not to expend energy on challenging this decision. But since it sheds some interesting light on the local filmmaking scene, we've decided to pass this information on to you.
